Windows 10 and the bug of May 2020

The launch of the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, the first half-yearly update of this year for the Microsoft operating system, is already proving difficult.

The release period, initially identified (albeit only unofficially) in the middle of the month, was postponed to the end of the month due to a bug identified at the last moment: this move was seen by all as a responsible choice by Microsoft , which in the past has clearly released less than perfect updates.

Now, however, we learn that the May 2020 Update that will be released in the coming weeks will contain a known bug, the fix for which it will be produced only later.

According to what has been affirmed by Microsoft itself, the bug has no consequences on the normal functioning of the system: it concerns in fact Dism, the tool created to allow the repair of a Windows installation that for any reason has been corrupted due to an error .

On the one hand, therefore, if all goes well, the user will never notice the bug. On the other hand, should a serious operating system problem occur, the main recovery tool may not work.

"We are aware of the existence of a problem that occurs when using Dism (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) to solve problems related to system corruption on installations updated to the May 2020 Update and which consists of an incorrect indication of the status »confesses Microsoft. "This problem will be resolved in a later release."

In short, Windows 10 2004 will come out with a bug, recognized and admitted, but not considered dangerous enough to force to postpone the release further. It is to be hoped that the Redmond experts are right.
