Tag, you're it! How to do tags the correct way on Publish0x

Do repost and rate:

I have looked at different aspects of PUBLISH0X in the past and tried and make heads or tails of them. And I have been wanting to make a post about tags for quite some time. But I have not had anything to say other than "use them they are good". But a few days back lightning struck. And I got my eureka moment.

Tags and why you should use them

Tags are used as a shorthand to sort your post according to content. That means if you write about Bitcoin then you should one of the bitcoin tags like "Bitcoin", "BTC", or "Bitcoin (BTC)" as some example. That then means your post will get sorted as a Bitcoin post. And it will be placed in each relevant category. Do note that a tag containing "Bitcoin" can belong to different categories. As an example "Bitcoin Trading" belong to the "Market Analysis and Trading" category. While "Bitcoin Mining" belong under the "Staking, Yield Farming, and Mining" category.

There are a lot of categories tho, so choosing the right tags that will expose you to as many categories as possible is important. Why? It will give your post maximum exposure. There are however some categories that are more "important" than others. That sounds wrong. But I hope you will understand what I am trying to say. If you want to have as "popular" of a post as possible. The categories on the start page are key.

The categories there that you can have your post end up in are: Cryptocurrency NewsCrypto Videos and PodcastsStaking, Yield Farming, and MiningNFTs, Dapps, and Blockchain GamesDeFi - Decentralized FinanceMarket Analysis and Trading

And they are important simply because they are on the start page. If you use tags that are associated with these topics then your post can shop up in the top 3 of each feed.

A screenshot from a few days back, and no it was not photoshopped, but it is most likely a sight I will not see again in a long time is ever

But how do you know what tags belong to what category?

There are two ways you can go about finding this out. The first is by clicking on a category on the start page. Then you will be taken to the page of that category. Here you will see two things, the first you will notice is a list of all the posts with tags that fall under this category. The second and most important part is the information text. It tells you what tags you can use to get put in this category.

And if you read the text it will also tell you to only use one of the tags. And I would advise you to use the most accurate/relevant one. Using more than one is not needed and in my experience, it will not help you or give you an advantage. Plus now you have 4 more tags you can use to maximize the post's exposure.

The second way you can see what tags belong to each category is probably the best. And that is by pressing the "" category in the top menu. This will not take you to a page where all the categories are shown. And each category has tags that are associated with it. This will make it easy to find examples of tags to use. And you might even find a category of posts you will find interesting to explore as well.

My Eureka moment

Now we come to the good part. The Eureka moment that led me to think this post should exist. And as I am still new and an n00b when it comes to both crypto and especially Publish0x this might already be something that everyone has figured out. But on the chance, it is not so I thought it important to share.

Stopp stalling, yea sorry.

My eureka moment was this. I realized that it is the first tag that you put on a post that is the dominant one. What do I mean by that? The first tag you use is the category where the post will trend if it fulfills the criteria to trend. And as you can see by my extreme example above. I tend to use the "Crypto News" tag first. No matter if it should be first or not. Why, because it is easy to find, I need to click on the many and scroll a little.

Do note that I am not saying I use it on posts that should not have it. I only said I probably put it first instead of where it probably should go if I arranged the tags in order of importance.

But to make it clear. Technically you do not have to put your tags in order of importance. And if you ask Publish0x they will tell you that the order does not matter. What I have come across is probably a feature that occurred due to the way it has been coded. The part where the posts get sorted.

The last thing I want to leave you with is, that please only use tags that are appropriate for your post. If you use a tag just because it is popular you can get in trouble and you can even get your account suspended. So tag with care and tag accordingly.

But now you know the power of the first tag which means you will have more control over your posts and hopefully, you will be able to have greater success as well. That at least is the goal with this post. Inform and educate so we all can get better.

I hope that you have found this post to be useful for you. And please share your thoughts on this, was this something you already know, or was this news to you as well? Please share in the comment section down below.
