A few weeks ago I found a locality of the oyster mushroom in my park. It was late autumn, but there were frosts, even a slight frost at night and the first snowfalls.
Kilka tygodni temu namierzylem w moim parku stanowisko boczniaka ostrygowatego. To byla pozna jesien, ale zdarzaly sie przymrozki, nawet maly mroz w nocy i pierwsze opady sniegu.
The mushroom looked blooming, suitable for consumption, and small frosts did not harm it at all.
Grzyb wygladal kwitnaco, nadawal sie do konsumpcji, a male przymrozki nie zaszkodzily mu zupelnie.
I decided to visit the same place today and check how the mushroom is doing after two extreme nights. Today, the ground temperature dropped to minus 20 degrees in the morning. This has been a rare occurrence in my country in recent years.
Postanowilem to samo miejsce odwiedzic dzisiaj, i sprawdzic jak ma sie grzybek, po dwoch ekstremalnych nocach. Dzisiaj bowiem temperatura przy gruncie spadla nad ranem do minus 20 stopni. To rzadkie zjawisko ostatnimi latami w moim kraju.
At first glance, the mushroom looked perfect, even blooming. Unfortunately, these were only appearances. There were clearly visible glaciers on the surface of the mushroom, and when I tried to break off one lobe of the oyster mushroom, it fell apart in my hands.
Na pierwszy rzut oka grzyb wygladal doskonale, wrecz kwitnaco. Niestety to byly tylko pozory. Na powierzchni widac grzyba wyraznie bylo widac zlodowacenia, a gdy probowalem ulamac jeden plat boczniaka, ten rozsypal mi sie w rekach.
The conclusion is that the oyster mushroom is an autumn-winter species, with a preference for autumn. It withstands snow and small frosts, but freezes at very low temperatures.
Wniosek jest taki, ze boczniak ostrygowaty jest gatunkiem jesienno-zimowym, ze wskazaniem na jesien. Wytrzymuje snieg i male przymrozki, ale w bardzo niskich temperaturach zamarza.
The only species I know so far that can effectively withstand severe frosts is the lilac ear, which can also be found in the forest at this time of year.
Jedyny mi znany do tej pory gatunek, ktory skutecznie wytrzymuje silne mrozy to ucho bzowe, ktore rowniez mozna spotkac o tej porze roku w lesie.
Although you are not always lucky to find some winter specimens of mushrooms, it is worth taking a walk in the forest, which I love and recommend to everyone.
Chociaz nie zawsze ma sie szczescie na znalezienie jakichs zimowych okazow grzybow, warto jednak pospacerowac sobie po lesie, co uwielbiam i polecam kazdemu.
