I have noticed that during the whole pandemic more and more people kept asking me about cryptocurrency, where to get it, how to trade it and so on, and so forth. It seemed fairly strange to me that at a time, when everything is unstable, people would invest themselves into crypto. But the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. Here are a few reasons why I, and maybe you, have encountered many new crypto entusiasts:
1. Curiosity and Boredom
Imagine sitting at home, surfing the web and reading the same thing over and over again. It gets boring eventually. Then you stumble upon an article that is talking about Ethereum, Bitcoin or maybe hackers demanding Monero with their ransomware. You get curious and go down the rabbit hole of articles, links, videos etc. You hit up your friend who used to tell you all about it.
2. EZ Money
Some people have approached me and asked me how to mine Ethereum. Or how to make a cryptocurrency casino. Or if Bitcoin multipliers/doublers work. At this point in time many of them were desperate and broke. It's understandable. I had to tell many people that their laptop is not suited for Ethereum mining, that a casino costs money and that most of "ez money" schemes are sadly a scam. Though a good thing is that, after everything calmed down, they remained crypto enthusiasts.
3. Ads
It's interesting how many people came to me after seeing an ad on TV, YouTube or even in real life. Most of those ads promised to be "Bitcoin banks" or "safer crypto". They are targeting people who do not understand enough about crypto to know, that it was created to oppose the centralized system of banks or that crypto is safe because it's just money.
Everyone that came to me was a complete noob in crypto. If they wanted, I helped them set up a wallet for their preferred currency. I managed their expectations and now they are happily using crypto from time to time.
