That's right, the irresistible little yellow men on TV (who are not new to pop forays into culture and the economy) in the episode Frinkcoin (season 31, episode 13), explain in their own words one of the technological totems of the last decade: the blockchain.
Lisa is compiling an essay on Professor Frink, the Springfield scientist, who created his own cryptocurrency, Frinkcoin (so much so that he surpasses Mr. Burns as the richest man in town).
To explain to Lisa how cryptocurrencies work, Frink starts a video, which stars the Simpsonian version of Jim Parsons (the Sheldon of The Big Bang Theory).
"We need a cryptocurrency ledger, explains Parsons's alter ego, which records every transaction. These are recorded in what we call a distributed ledger”.
At that moment the ledger, which has become a cartoon, sings a song in which it explains its operation:
I'm a consensus of shared and synchronized digital data / spread across multiple platforms from Shanghai to Grenada. / Each day I'm closer to being cash of the future. / Not in your wallet, I'm in your computer.
The word then returns to Parsons:
"When you use currency, the transaction is recorded in the ledger, and when a LEDGER is filled, we add it to a chain of previous books: that's the blockchain".
