Elon Steps Back from Crypto - AI Becomes His New Thing

I hope you are all well and having a great day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. The man, the myth, the legend himself (and pain in the you know what to some) has announced via Twitter that he is focusing his attention on AI after his ventures into crypto. Elon Musk, the Billionaire owner of Twitter, released a Tweet on the 3rd of March to let the world know of his future plans.

Musk & AI

Back in 2015 Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, was actually one of the founding members of the OpenAI firm which created the famed ChatGPT.  He stepped down from his role in 2018 but as we all know, Musk loves to be in the spotlight and hails himself as a scientific enthusiast and innovator. Often he has been seen supporting the controversial latest technologies when others may not be so willing, and sometimes it has worked out a treat for him. ChatGPT launched in December 2022 and the innovative technology grabbed the headlines as it has seen extraordinary levels of user onboarding, with a reported 100 million users within the first two months. This was mostly thanks to the AI’s (Artificial Intelligence) unique responses and human-like tone got the most attention.

While the development and advancement has been phenomenal, Must is not quite backing this technology in the same way he has done with others in the past. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Musk said:

“One of the biggest risks to the future of civilization is AI. It’s both positive or negative and has great, great promise, great capability, but with that comes great danger."

Musk acknowledges the fact that artificial intelligence has become incredibly advanced, thanks to its generative AI tool which returns human like responses to user prompts. Its advanced form of AI powered by the language model GPT-3 means it is programmed to understand human language and therefore can generate responses from its large reservoirs of data. According to Musk this has allowed people to see just how far along AI is:

"ChatGPT has illustrated to people just how advanced AI has become. The AI has been advanced for a while. It just didn’t have a user interface that was accessible to most people.”

However, like many other industries, AI will most certainly require some sort of rules and regulations for it to function in a safe way to enhance society. More importantly, to keep its development under control. Regulation of AI safety will be paramount to avoiding some of the bigger risks it can pose to society, which Musk believes is much much more than the likes of cars, plans, or medicine, which left unregulated could have been disastrous to humanity. Musk has long warned of the perils of an uncontrolled development of AI, which was one of the factors behind the initial creation of OpenAI. Part of it was based on Google's inability to monitor and regulate AI safety, although Google have somewhat fallen behind in the AI race currently. While they have released their own rival tool known as 'Bard,' ChatGPT is still the go to place of AI:

Initially it was created as an open-source non-profit. Now it is closed-source and for profit. I don’t have an open stake in OpenAI, nor am I on the board, nor do I control it in any way.”

Twitter Failure, Crypto Not Cool Anymore, but Musk Interested in AI

So with Musk's tweet on the 3rd of March basically announcing his move into the AI space, and also basically confirming he is bored with Crypto, what could this really mean? While many will view Musk as someone with childish behaviours, many others will believe his aims and noble ambitions to create a better world for all. Whether this be through his space exploration and aim to make humans an interplanetary species, his renewable energies and electric cars, or his ambitions to make Twitter into a safe heaven for free speech, Musk has pushed himself into the spotlight on many fronts.

While his Twitter venture has not gone to plan, with many claiming it was $44 Billion down the drain, Musk continues to push it despite its almost impossible ambitions of becoming a financial or cultural success. However, Musk is now focusing on another project; AI. Reportedly over the recent weeks and months Musk has been approaching a variety of artificial intelligence researchers in the hopes of forming his own research lab. The overall goal of this would be to create his own alternative to the chatbot launched by San Francisco start-up OpenAI.

The race is on for launching the best AI chatbot is heating up for sure. With Google working on 'Bard' and now Musk looking to get his own version on the go, the limits seem boundless for these companies. With the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT every tech firm is either trying to collaborate with them, or create their own version. Apparently now OpenAI is looking at upgrading the technology to AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) while also considering releasing the paid version of their current software. One of the leading names in the AI space, ex-DeepMind AI unit member Igor Babuschkin, is one of the frontrunners to lead Musk's venture into the AI space.

Potentially a “TruthGPT” could be development down the line from the Billionaire who is determined to 'do good for humanity' in every way he can. We will be waiting with abated breadth to see whether or not Musk can achieve some good with his next venture, or if he will create another Twitter disaster class. One thing is for sure though, he is done with Crypto, for now at least. Don't be surprised to see him resurface in the Crypto space once the next bull market kicks into full swing.

Have a great day.
