Cabin is starting its first network city

Cabin, a digital-native coliving city project, is aiming to revolutionize its initiative by incorporating crypto governance into its newly launched Network City. The Network City, announced by Cabin, is a globally-distributed property designed for remote workers and creators who have a fondness for nature.

The city operates as a global alliance of self-governing neighborhoods that are accessible to residents holding NFTs known as citizenship passports. Cabin's project team emphasizes that these neighborhoods will be more affordable and accessible compared to traditional ones.

Cabin's network city seeks to integrate blockchain-powered membership with cabins or cottages in close-knit and welcoming communities. Jonathan Hillis, the founder of Cabin, believes that this initiative provides an effective way to unlock the "fountain of human creativity." He argues that modern cities tend to stifle and restrain human creativity, and Cabin aims to address the loneliness issues associated with car-centric suburban areas and single-family homes. The plan is to establish a collection of cabins in the woods where like-minded digital nomads and their friends can stay, creating a real-world environment for members to live and work together.

However, becoming a citizen of Cabin's network city requires a subscription membership known as "Citizenship," granting access to the cabins. This subscription includes benefits such as access to Cabin's global properties, year-round coliving options, and exclusive experiences. However, not everyone can become a Cabin Citizen. Prospective citizens must be vouched for by an existing citizen.

Cabin's network city operates as a social DAO, with its members holding crypto assets known as "Citizenship." These assets are represented as NFTs, indicating a member's participation. Citizens actively contribute to neighborhood composition and treasury management through votes powered by Cabin's governance token, CABIN. Each Cabin neighborhood is unique and individually owned, while still adhering to the shared ideology of Cabin. The rules and regulations governing each neighborhood may vary depending on its caretaker. To achieve neighborhood status, a property must receive 1000 CABIN token votes from citizens in its favor.

According to Hillis, Cabin's founder, this voting process represents "polycentric governance." He explains that Cabin's approach to governance differs from other DAOs, as it utilizes engaging "governance games" rather than relying on messy and ineffective voting mechanisms. Hillis describes their approach as building on the token-curated registry of the city directory, which adds an element of fun to the governance process.

By utilizing blockchain technology and tokens, Cabin tracks membership and ensures the legitimacy of residents within the network's neighborhoods. The CABIN token serves as a marker of authenticity and trust within the network. This innovative initiative may attract the attention of digital nomads who are eager to become citizens of Cabin's network city.
